We would like to welcome you to Guatemala. I am actually the leader of a large group of sponsors, but the information in this post is only about my home.
We are offering the basement level of our house. It is a walkout basement; so it had windows and natural light. It has two bedrooms (one of which is quite large and could be divided), a large central room, and a bathroom. We are also sharing the main level of our house which is where you will find the living room, kitchen, dining room, a classroom, and another bathroom. On the top floor, there is also a laundry area you will have access to.
For cultural reasons, we cannot accommodate men aged 18 to 70-some; my neighbors will start wild accusations about affairs I am having while my husband is at work, and that will cause problems for me.
You must be able to climb stairs or be easily carried. (It is a walkout basement, and there is stairless access, but in the rainy season--May to November--it would not be a pleasant trip around to get upstairs to eat.)
We will not charge you for food, rent, or utilities; we only ask that you clean up after yourselves, not break things, and don't waste food. We expect to house people up to a year after the end of the war while cities are rebuilt and people decide what they want to do with their lives.
Our house has wifi, and you can have the password when you get here.
Our town has a shopping center, two supermarkets (and many smaller shops), many public and private schools, and a bus stop for folks who want to travel to larger towns and cities.
